Red Oak (Quercus rubra) Large, native shade tree that can reach 80’. One of Iowa’s best trees for landscaping because it grows faster than other oaks. Grows on a wide variety of sites but prefers a sunny site with well-drained soils. Symmetrical, rounded crown provides lots of shade. Fall colors include red, orange-red or reddish-brown.

Bur Oak(Quercus macrocarpa) Native to Iowa, this tree reaches 60-80’ height with 60-90’ spread at maturity. Adaptable to most soils, requires full sun. Yellow-brown to purple fall color, excellent wildlife food source.

Eastern White Pine (Pinus strobus) Native, fast growing large conifer reaching 75’ and 20’-40’ spread. Grows well in rich, moist soil, but does best in moist, sandy loams. Full sun to partial shade yet protected from harsh winter winds. Soft,, picturesque tree.

Littleleaf Linden (Tilia cordata) 50-70’ height and 35-50’ spread at maturity. Oval crown. Medium growing, does well in full sun to partial shade

Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum) 60-75’ height and 40-70’ spread at maturity, brilliant orange-red fall color. Rather slow growing but long lived and strong. Tolerates shade. Does best on moderately moist to well-drained sites. Native to Iowa.
